The stock Fire OS launcher is heavily tailored to Amazon commercial content: massive banner carousels for Prime Video, Kindle books, and Amazon Appstore recommendations consume your home screen. If you prefer a clean, widget-friendly stock Android experience like Nova Launcher or Lawnchair, Fire Toolbox gives you the ability to replace it cleanly.

How Custom Launcher Hijacking Works

Amazon hardcodes Fire OS to ignore standard Android default launcher intent changes. To bypass this, Fire Toolbox employs a lightweight accessibility service helper called Launcher Hijack or an ADB-level key interceptor. Whenever you press the physical or software Home button, the service immediately intercepts the event and routes you to your chosen launcher.

Step-by-Step Setup Guide

Connect Tablet & Launch Fire Toolbox

Ensure USB Debugging is active on your tablet and open Fire Toolbox on your Windows PC.

Select "Custom Launcher" in Fire Toolbox

Click on Custom Launcher from the main dashboard. Fire Toolbox presents a list of verified launcher options (Nova, Lawnchair, Evie, Microsoft) or lets you supply a custom APK.

Install and Configure Hijack Service

Fire Toolbox will push your chosen launcher and install the navigation listener. When prompted on your tablet screen, toggle the accessibility permission for Launcher Hijack to ON.

Disable Stock Fire Launcher

Select "Disable Fire Launcher" inside Fire Toolbox. This prevents the default Amazon interface from holding RAM in the background.

Troubleshooting Home Button Delays

On newer versions of Fire OS (specifically Fire OS 8 on Fire HD 8 2022 and Fire Max 11), Amazon adds strict battery optimization to accessibility services. To prevent the launcher from unloading, go to Settings > Battery > Battery Optimization, select your launcher, and choose "Don't Optimize".
